Transforming an apartment in a Pombaline style building into a new contemporary experience was the main objective of this project. The rehabilitation had the concept of maintaining the identity and legacy of the building and maintaining the original materials and finishes that give truth and genuineness to the architectural project, such as the floor, doors, ceilings and fireplace / room stove.
This space, located in the historic center of Lisbon, still has its original typology, consisting of 3 bedrooms, a kitchen, a lounge and two toilets.
Respect for pre-existences was an important concept at the base of this project, aiming to create a relationship between the original constitutions of the apartment and the new materials introduced.
Providing the space with greater fluidity between the living room, the dining room and the kitchen, responding to the contemporary living style, offers a greater breadth of space. The preservation of functional areas was also a strategy, ensuring less exposure from the kitchen to the apartment’s noble area, assuming the pre-existing fireplace as a central element of the living space.
